Flying Moustache – Body Pillow

Two long body pillows together!

Flying Moustache

:$

It's about 10ft

This is a pillow my friend Alex  requested. He is fond of the colors orange & white and then I was free to design whatever I wanted. For some reason, I was envisioning clouds in solid and outlines of orange… then somehow I imagined mustache flying in the air and that’s how I got this. Weird stuff comes out of my head sometimes.

Pucca Costume – How to

This Halloween I wanted to do something simple and affordable and still me… so hey PUCCA is awesome!

Although I could have just been doraemon, which is my favorite:

It wouldn’t have been as challenging since it’s just a mask. SO instead, I made a PUCCA costume in less than an hour.

How to make — <3

Materials

  • 2 black beanies
  • red ribbon or fabric
  • uniform spherical objects – styrofoam or christmas ornaments (they are plastic, NOT GLASS,  from target):D
  • red long sleeve top
  • black leggings
  • scissors
  • needle/thread

Instructions

1. One beanie will be the one you will wear on your head. The other beanie will be cut up and used to wrap around pucca’s pig tails: I used christmas ornaments.

Use One Beanie to wear on your head

LEFT: beanie for head w/ ornaments RIGHT: finished product

Two Christmas Ornaments fo the stuffing of Pig Tails

2. Take the beanie for your head and wear it on your head. Take those ornament balls and sort of place it on top of your head to give you an idea of where you want those pig tails to show when you wear the beanie.  It will be a little different for everyone who has different head shapes but where I put my ornament balls is around the  upper front part of the beanie. Mark these areas and then cut small slits.

This is where I made my incisions

3. Take the other beanie and cut it up where you can get enough fabric to cover up one ornament ball. Once you cut up the fabric, wrap the ornament ball with it. Make sure it is tight and tie it with a string or some red ribbon.

wrap the other beanie fabric around the ornament ball

Tighten the ball with some ribbon

4. Once this is done and secure. Take the wrapped ball and insert it into the slits of the other beanie. Take the beanie inside/out and start sewing the edges of the wrapped ball to the beanie. After your finished, cut the excess fabric.

Sew the edges of wrapped ball to the beanie

cut some of the excess fabric

5. Repeat the process on the alternate side with the other wrapped ornament ball.

6. Take the red ribbon and cut it into two pieces. With each piece, neatly wrap it around each bun on the outside part of the beanie and then sew the edge to secure the ribbon onto the bun.

Two Pieces of Red Ribbon

Sew the Edge of ribbon to secure it on bun

7. Repeat the same process with the other Bun.

8. Headpiece should be finished! Place this outfit with a red top and black tights.

TADA!

Trying to make my smile as wide as Pucca's

You can also add blush on your cheeks to get that rosy cheek that Pucca has.

Alright that’s all folks. Hope your Halloween was great! I know my weekend was awesome but halloween officially sucked cuz the Texas Rangers lost :(

Fall Festivities

Although my blog is mainly dedicated to my creations, there is a small section called “MY LIFE” and I haven’t really filled up that category yet so here is to the first post for the neat little adventures I have had thus far.

So… Fall has come to town. With fall, there have been various festivities & events to attend in Houston. Although I have mostly been a bum the last few months, I have taken more initiative to go out and explore lately. This weekend was the…

Korean Festival – October 23, 2010

This last weekend there was the Korean Festival at Discovery Green in downtown Houston. I arrived to a mass of asians, not just koreans, but AZNs. I was surrounded by many teenagers and felt like I was back in california again in high school attending these different asian culture fests like filipino festival in San Pedro or Nisei week in Little Tokyo. Along the traditional dances were performances by local talent like a dance group called primus and singer Julia Hsu. People out of town like The MC was from SoCal: Paul Jisung Kim but I think everyone was there to see Clara C, a singer also from Cali (I think?).   There were many performers but my favorite to watch and take pictures of are the traditional dancers.

A Night at Market Square – October 16, 2010

FREEEEEE. Market Square is located in downtown Houston and they recently opened up a Niko Niko’s at the square where there is a small performance venue. It’s a nice environment where you can relax, get some food, have a picnic, and sit on the grass or tables while listening to live music.

The houston Skyline

Right next door was the Turkish festival and the performing arts theater in Houston. The market square is in the theater district and it’s great! Originally from LA and love my city to death, but Houston also has some very beautiful downtown scenes to offer too. I can’t wait to go around and take pictures of all the interesting architecture someday.

Well that’s all I have done these past two weeks as far as “activities” go. Basically all I do is eat, work, sleep, sew, and watch baseball. Hopefully halloween weekend will be even cooler! I am going to be PUCCA. Stay tune for costume! Also, the Rangers are at the world series so I’m probably not going to go out and will end up staying in to watch the game. I do have one WORLD SERIES Ticket though! I’m so excited for them!! Oh I forgot to mention that this last Friday, the Rangers won the ALCS and is heading off to the World Series… I nearly cried… our friends from out of town came in so we went out Friday night to celebrate… and the same day I was feeling incredibly ill, sleeping most of the day, and then miraculously during the game I started feeling better and better and then they won! I <3 them.

Cross Body Circle Purse

I like the idea of the circle purse because of it’s simplicity. Yet, there are some added details to this purse such as the basic patchwork that was done. The stripes alternate. This was done by cutting out squares, sewing them together, and cutting 2 circles from the patch.

There is a metal zipper that has dark blue lining.

I bought the zipper in LA and liked it’s interesting zipper slider.

The Black Knitted Scarf

Get ready for the cold! Knitwear is definitely in this season.

I used 12 gauge needles to knit this very long scarf. It’s not just a basic stitch all the way  but has some ribbing that I made by a pearl stitch for every 2 basic knits.

swing to the side

I made this scarf for Jonathan last year for Christmas.  The scarf is quite long, about 5″1/2 feet. It’s black cuz I figured it would be versatile to wear with many clothes during the winter, especially for men. The ribbing gives off additional texture to the knit  and in my opinion, makes the knit more dynamic and less boring.

Muffled

Hello

Yellow

Haha the secret to being able to style and manipulate the scarf is the length.

how to knit ribbed scarf…

materials

  • two balls of bulky (soft) yarn
  • size 12 knitting needles (I have them this large to have a very loose knitted look, get smaller sized needles for tighter look)
  • sew needle or crochet hook to weave the ends

How to – Instructions

  1. Cast on 28 stitches
  2. Row one: *Knit 2, purl 1. Repeat from * to the last stitch, knit 1.
  3. Row two: Purl 1, *knit 2, purl 1. Repeat from * to end.
  4. Repeat till you run out of yarn.
  5. Bind off… use crochet hook to weave in the ends of scarf.

shocked from Ranger Win!

My favorite way to wear it is the muffler look…

It truly keeps me very very warm.

Body Pillow

So I told myself I’d only write this entry within 15 min so I can finally sleep.

Tonight, I made a body pillow for one of my friends.

This here is the pillowcase that I worked so very hard on. The fabric is made out of 100% cotton. The fabric has been prewashed by ME and is much softer.

The pillow is 56″ x 20″. The pillow is quite intimidating since That is so very close to my height..The pillow itself was purchased at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, the place of happiness and wonderful things. It was $20. I don’t understand why they are so expensive but OKAY.

The expression is one that I find funny and especially to see sitting there on your bed. The expression reminds me of when you feel extremely tired and thus… an expression perfect for the bed!

(GAH only four more min to complete post!)

just let it sit there.

I wish I had pictures of this on a bed but it looks pretty cool occupying a couch. My friend’s bedsheets are green so hopefully he likes this. Alright, time is up. Have a goodnite everyone.
If I were pregnant, I’d totally dig this pillow.

Muffler – How to make

A Muffler is a heavy scarf worn around the neck for warmth.

On September 29, 2010 I was incredibly stressed out and to take my mind off of things, I decided to go ahead and make a muffler. When finished, I felt a lot better and warmer.

To make this muffler, it’s quite simple.
If you wish to make one, I can give you very plain instructions here… but if you wait, I may come out with a detailed tutorial.

Materials

Length

Linen-wool: 59″ x 13.5″
Cotton: 59″ x 13.5″
Lace Tape: 90″
Wooden Buttons: 2

What to do

1. Place the front piece (could be linen-wool or Cotton) on the back piece. Make sure the fabric you want to show in your final look will be within inside of this step. In other words, the right sides are facing each other. After this, align your edges.

2. Insert the lace between the layers on both short sides and one long side. Align the edges.

3. Sew 3/8″ from the edge along all four sides, leaving an opening of about 6″ along one of the LONG sides to handsew later.

4. Trim any excess lace.

5. Turn the muffler right side out. Fold the edge of the opening 3/8″ to the wrong side.

6. Use an iron to press all along the fabric to get a smooth body and clean edges throughout your muffler.

7. Hand stitch the 6″ opening, closed.

8. Fold over the ends of the lace and hand stitch that in place as well.

9. Sew buttons to the linen-wool side (in my picture, it’s the purple side).

Final measurement of this should be 58.25″ x 12.75″

Many fun projects, like this muffler can be found in “LINEN WOOL COTTON” – Akiko Mano, 25 simple projects to sew with natural fabrics.

Here are more photos of the muffler and it’s details and how it can look when worn. My friend Jing here in modeling in our fall photo shoot. Thank you Jing :)

A Nautical Scarf

Finally. The time to sew has now come. After a summer of studying, my sewing machine has been collecting dust. Alas… it is time to sew.

Elephantitis wants me to use him!

Since fall is bringing the colder weather, I have been inspired to sew for myself and others….scarves!
Today’s feature is the Nautical Scarf.

Red Nautical

“Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all
Stanley Horowitz

I know that nautical is more of the spring/summer trend but I feel that this scarf transcends all the seasons… Nautical style clothes can look good even through cooler climates.

Here is my friend Lina sporting my scarf during our fall photoshoot. Photo Taken Oct. 01, 2010.

The Scarf is about 59" long

This looks like window drapery

Long Black Stripes with Anchors on Red

Fabric is made of what most of your hoodies are made out of: jersey knit cotton.

Looks good on guys too!

I suppose what I like about this scarf the most is the pattern and fabric. In my case, it was extremely easy to make this scarf. You basically cut out about 3 ft length x 13.5 inches of material and BOOM sew the edges and viola.. “you got a scarf!” heck, I could have just cut it out of fabric but it wouldn’t look as finished. You also have to iron this out but it’s expensive buying the right fabric. I was just lucky this fabric was in the LA Fashion district hiding with another nautical pattern. I was going to make a hoodie but I thought this scarf would look awesome skiing, wouldn’t it?!

It’s quite nice that nautical looks can be unisex. I just like how it pops… out of your neck! Also, it’s quite warm. I was going to make it even thicker but cut down on using too much fabric in the end after realizing I would probably be sweating in the cold weather.

Thanks Jonathan for Modeling :)

See how it nicely wraps around his neck and isn’t too thick.
Well, I made a lot more scarves so please stay tune for more…
Also, since I have more time for now, I will be updating a lot more frequently.
I’d also like to address those friends who I told I would be making them something… well now that I have more free time, I can. However, these next few posts were items that I made for a deadline.
Next items to make are… iphone cuzi, pillow case, iphone sleeve, hoodie scarf, bag…halloween costume. sigh anyone have suggestions for halloween costume?! Okay Blabbing… farewell folks
