Why the name “Hello Yellow Crafts”?

I suppose the name started when I had this virtual pet on NEOPETS in high school that I named “hellomellowyellow” and I think I liked the “hello yellow” part of it the most and it just stuck with me. I knew I would save the name for later. Probably not a name for my future children, but indeed a name for my handmade creations. PLUS, I love Yellow. My favorite color since I was BORN!

What does it mean to be “Cutesy”?

According to Jenelyn’s Dictionary, “Cutesy” pronounced “kyoooot-seeee” is anything that exemplifies a lot of cute.

i.e. “Oh wow Jennifer, your bed looks so cutesy with that panda pillow.”
“Hey baby, what a cutesy toosh you have”
“This is a cutesy grape” … etc.

How did Hello Yellow Crafts begin?

At first, I just started making random cutesy items and decided I would start a crafting blog documenting each item.  Then, I read an article on mint.com about 10 things you can do to start the new year of 2010 right financially. “Starting a small business” was on the list. The article specially mentioned if you sell items on etsy.com, you can make your business official and receive tax benefits while doing something you enjoy. PURRRFECCT. That’s exactly what I was going to do anyways so might as well go all out. So, I made it official and got the business license and tax permits and the rest is history.

What is it that you sell exactly?

Most of the items that I sell in my shops are handmade with the exception of craft publications like COTTON TIME (a japanese crafting magazine).
The items that are in my shop are usually featured in my blog which ranges from amirugumi, bags, gadget purses, cell phone sleeves, cell phone chains,etc. A lot of items are “cutesy” but some are more modern and chic. Both men and women can shop here.

Yes. Many people ask me to make something specially for them depending on what they need with a little HelloYellow touch whether it be a purse, cell phone bling, scarves, amirugumi, laptop case etc.

What do you base your pricing on?

I base most of my pricing on the quality of the work and the materials used. A lot of the yarn and the fabric I use are expensive to begin with because they are good quality. I also base my pricing on the time spent on certain projects. I try to maintain a balance between what is affordable to the consumer and the profit I receive from my work & time on certain  projects.
